President Bush has the authority, as Commander in Chief of the United States Armed Forces, to deploy troops throughout the world (particularly in Iraq). However, it is Congress that has the “Power of the Purse,” and the ability to simply cut funding for the President’s military efforts. Yet that is something many in Congress are reluctant to do. Why?

Well, once again, the reality of the situation in Iraq goes far deeper than the politicking we see on the nightly news. Even those members of Congress most against the War admit, at least in private, that completely pulling out would be a disaster. We’re in this mess, for better or worse.
