According to the Associated Press’ count, as of Jan 1, 2007, at least 3,002 members of the U.S. military have died since the outbreak of the war in March of 2003. For comparison, here are the counts for the other nations with troops in Iraq:

  • England: 127
  • Italy: 33
  • Ukraine: 18
  • Poland: 18
  • Bulgaria: 13
  • Spain: 11
  • Denmark: 6
  • El Salvador: 5
  • Slovakia: 4
  • Latvia: 3
  • Estonia: 2
  • Netherlands: 2
  • Thailand: 2
  • Australia: 1
  • Hungary: 1
  • Kazakhstan: 1
  • Romania: 1

Things in Iraq need to change. Now that Saddam Hussein is gone, the Ba’athist loyals should decrease fighting (but if they were to rally, the results would be disastrous). However, general international sentiment towards the US is going to keep our troops specifically targeted. We need a plan (dare I say a “timetable”?) for the phased withdraw of US forces in Iraq, not for any kind of political reasons, but because we will only loose more Americans as time goes on.

I would like to see a 50% reduction in force size by years end. Meaning the current number of 140,000 should drop to 70,000. Its only becoming more dangerous there.

I still don’t understand why Iraq is still on war when the reason of their war is gone, and i don’t understand why other troops are still in that country, I mean i believe if all the troops left Iraq and let it to its people to decide what to do, i believe their war will come to an ending.

They will face the reality that this is their country and its time for them to fix it , so they will stop the mombo jombo on we are invaded by other countries and those inner wars will stop.
