[UPDATE: The newest video, post execution can be found on Webmerica at this address.]
You can see Saddam’s last words and those of the people around him translated into English. This is the “cell phone” video of his execution. CNN verifies the authenticity of the footage, which was posted on Webmerica earlier.
Watch CNN’s report here:

Here is a weblog of a girl who lives in Iraq, who corrected and explained the mistakes in the CNN translated audio from the cell video.

If you assume that Bush’s staff know what they’re doing, then you have to ask why they allowed it to be stage-managed it like this, in view of the entirely predictable consequences.
Hence my question above about what possible reason they might have to want to make Saddam a hero and martyr to a significant number of people worldwide and why they’d want to offer provocation to innumerable muslims by the timing (from what I can gather the timing is a bit like AQ putting out a video of a hostage execution on xmas morning) and further, why they’d want to vividly demonstrate to the world that they’ve put a bunch of death squads in charge of the bloody wreckage which they’ve created in Iraq and called it a ‘legitimate government.’
The other explanation is that they actually have no clue about any of this stuff, and it’s simply a side-effect of staging a bit of a circus for some of their Iraqi puppets with old grudges and for their remaining drool-case supporters in the US, by demonstrating their arbitary power of life and death over uppity foreigners, just like Caligula did by throwing them to the lions.
Either way, it seems like a cack-handed PR screw-up to me, on a par with the trial of Marius Van Der Lubbe.
Oh, great!, when are going to be able to watch the video with Cheney, Bush and Rumsfelg hanging?.
good video
I, no way want to defend Hussein. But, if we have decided to regress to the stupidity of an “eye for an eye” — then when do we lych Bush, Blair, Cheney, Rumsfield and Rice? I mean, let’s be consistent and fair about being lying, dangerous and cruel.
This was no execution. This was wrong.
Of course, I oppose the death penalty. I also oppose war as a solution.
I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that read, “War solves nothing unless you count Naziism, Communism, Facism and Evil” …and, all I could think was, ‘have mercy on this guy’s soul. he knows not what he does’ …and, I’m not even Christian.
But to think that war has EVER been fought to help people is a sad misunderstanding of history and economics. …and, power.
I worry for the world. I worry for all of us.
And, I am ashamed of my own fucking country. What have we become and how many more children are going to have to die in the name of oil, money and power disguised as democracy which has never really existed in the first place.
Sad. Sad. Sad.
