Should another $170 billion of taxpayer money be used to finance the war this year? That’s the proposed cost if Congress approves Bush’s new request, bringing the total price of the war to almost half a trillion dollars. That’s money that could’ve been used to finance projects here at home. Unfortunately, we have to commit that money. If we just packed up and left Iraq now, the results would be disastrous. The country would fall apart. Rival local militias will fight for decades, and terrorist will have a perfect ground for training and recruiting. Basically, we’re in too deep. Our troops will have to keep fighting, and that means we’ll loose more of them.

John F. Kennedy said in his inaugural address, “An error doesn’t become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.” That sums up Bush’s ’stay the course’ attitude perfectly…. Iraq was an error that he refused to fix. And now that he’s made a mistake of it, we’re stuck.
